It was the first UK performance of Dvořák’s Stabat Mater that propelled the composer to the fame and popularity that he has enjoyed ever since.

The work is an extended choral setting of the text, and was started after the death of one of his children. Before he had completed the work, both Dvořák’s other children had died – one of them, tragically, by phosphorus poisoning.

This performance will be in St Mary’s Cardigan, given by Cantorion Aberteifi, conducted by Alistair Auld, and with Jeff Howard on the organ.

Tickets are just £10 on the door.
